Description
Chinese Ming Dynasty Blue & White Porcelain Jarlet
This small porcelain jar was made during the 15th to 16th century.
It is thickly potted and coated in a thick glaze with a floral pattern decoration in underglaze blue of deep colour.
There are no chips or fritting to this pot, which is unusual as most have some minor chips.
The flat base is unglazed and has an old collectors label attached.
These jarlet’s were used as receptacles for cosmetics and medicines, or perhaps the ingredients used in betal-chewing. Most have been recovered from shipwreck sites.
Diameter 6.5 cm. dia x 5.5cm high
This jarlet is in excellent condition with no repair or restoration.
